Lunenburg West MLA Focuses On Review Process, Not Decision

The MLA for Lunenburg West says it’s not for him to comment on the outcome of last night’s Bridgewater-Park View school review.

The process was changed by Bob Fowler in 2013 to allow committees to conduct the reviews and determine the best solutions.

Mark Furey says the big change resulted in decisions on schools being made at the community level.

“It’s not my position to intervene or object in the decisions of another elected body, no different than if we as a provincial government made a decision. I would hope the federal government would allow us to do our business.”

Furey says his focus was on the process and feels with the decision, it’s the responsibility of the community that the best interest of the students are advanced.

He says the elected board made their decision and the education minister has no authority to change it.

The decision means roughly 854 students will attend Park View as early as September 2017.
