Lunenburg’s Beck Wins World Hockey Championship Gold

A Nova Scotia goaltender is bringing international gold back home.

Maddie Beck of Lunenburg is part of team Canada’s under-18 women’s hockey team that won the IIHF World Hockey Championship in Japan.

Canada defeated the United States in Sunday’s final, 3-2 in overtime.

It’s Canada’s first gold medal in the event since 2014. The U.S. had won four in a row.

The 17 year-old Beck is expected to return to school at St. Paul’s High in New Hampshire.

She will play for Nova Scotia’s women’s hockey team next month at the Canada Winter Games in Red Deer, Alberta.
