Lunenburg’s Flower, Bridgewater’s Getson Ready For QMJHL Playoffs

A Lunenburg hockey player is getting ready for his first taste of Quebec Major Junior Hockey League playoffs.

Walter Flower and the Halifax Mooseheads open up the post-season tonight on the road against the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies.

The matchup pits the number two ranked Huskies against the 15th place Mooseheads.

The 17 year-old Flower feels his team can play spoiler.

“We’re underdogs coming into this series. For us, I think that’s an advantage not having that added pressure.”

Rouyn-Noranda won both matchups against Halifax this season but two teams haven’t played each other since early November.

The Mooseheads are 8-0 in the playoffs all-time against the Huskies after sweeping them in 2005 and 2013.

This will be Flower’s first playoff appearance with Halifax.

“For me, it’s not anything different than the regular season. It’s just more fun, more of a grind and everyone is going to be out there working for each other. For my first playoff experience, I’m really looking forward to it.”

Game one is scheduled for 8:30 tonight in Quebec.

Bridgewater’s Keith Getson will also suit up in the playoffs tonight for Charlottetown when the Islanders play Baie Comeau.
