MAHONE BAY – The Town of Mahone Bay is in mourning after losing a long time community leader.
Joe Feeney died while on vacation in the Bahamas with his wife.
The former mayor served on town council for more than 30 years.
His successor, Mayor David Devenne says he’s still in shock.
“He had just retired and was looking forward to having some time to travel, and within six months of leaving his post boom, he’s gone.”
Devenne says Feeney will be sorely missed.
“Absolutely devastated. Could not believe it. Just the fact that he’s died so suddenly no advance indication that anything was awry.”
Devenne says an autopsy is expected to take place before they bring Feeney’s remains home.
There’s no word yet on when a funeral will be held.
