Martins River Man Charged After Attempting To Evade Police

A Martins River man has been charged after attempting to evade police during a traffic stop.

44-year-old Colin Charles Fickes is facing charges of dangerous driving, flight from police, resisting arrest, and two counts of beaching a recognizance.

Lunenburg District RCMP say they responded to a complaint of a man attempting to drive while impaired on August 28.

When police attempted to stop Fickes, he fled the area at a high rate of speed.

Police estimate the man was nearing 100 km an hour in a 50 km school zone.

Another nearby officer attempted to stop the Fickes, who forced the police vehicle off the road and nearly struck it.

He once again fled, this time in the wrong lane on Highway 3 heading toward Martins River.

A short time later police found the vehicle abandoned with no sign of Fickes.

Later, police received an anonymous call saying Fickes had been dropped off at his home.

After a struggle, officers arrested the man.

He was released from custody following his court appearance August 29 and is set to appear in Bridgewater Provincial Court September 18.
