Mayor Says Bridgewater Backs Afterglow Festival

Following our story yesterday, Bridgewater’s mayor says the town fully supports the Afterglow festival.

David Mitchell says they provide financial support and lend equipment and staff to the event to make it a success.

The mayor also addressed the $1,200 the festival was asked to pay to close part of King street.

“Everything has a cost – to have barricades dropped off after hours – either the town taxpayer absorbs it or it’s passed on to the event.”

Mitchell says street closures involve more than just blocking the street.

Police also need to be paid to patrol the area and reroute traffic, and businesses need to be notified their customers may have difficulty accessing their establishments.

Mitchell hopes to see Afterglow be part of the fabric of the town every fall.

And says he wants to sit down with organizers to work out how to make that happen.
