Mayors Highlight Priorities, Challenges Over Breakfast

There are three key areas the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg considers priority.

Carolyn Bolivar-Getson says they include high speed internet and roads.

The mayor of MODL says high speed internet is a basic service that most of their residents can’t access.

“If you live in rural Nova Scotia or one of our rural communities here in MODL, there is a good chance you cannot connect to reliable high speed internet.”

Bolivar-Getson says council is committed to tackling the complex problem.

She says they have applied to access provincial funding for high speed internet and are considering options from the federal government.

Meanwhile, Bridgewater’s mayor is looking towards the future.

David Mitchell focused on a new youth advisory committee, changes to King Street and attracting and retaining businesses in Bridgewater.

Mitchell challenged the community to stop complaining and help the town.

“If you have a complaint, bring it to us. That’s part of our job. But, come armed with a solution as well. Complaining is easy, finding the solutions that’s the hard part. We don’t have all the answers; work with us.”

Both municipal units commended each other on their cooperation on projects like the Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre and Municipal Joint Services Board.

The two mayors spoke during a breakfast gathering this morning organized by the Bridgewater and Area Chamber of Commerce.
