Memorial Hockey Tournament To Benefit Journey Room

Local first responders will lace up their skates this weekend to remember one of their own.

RCMP Constable Dave Wynn, a former Bridgewater paramedic, was killed on January 17, 2015 after he was shot in St. Albert, Alberta.

This year is the 3rd Annual Dave Wynn Memorial Classic Hockey Tournament in Lawrencetown.

Funds raised will go towards the Journey Room for cancer patients and their families at South Shore Regional Hospital.

Shelley McInnis-Wynn says hockey helped connect Dave and their kids.

“Although Dave couldn’t skate very well and he definitely couldn’t play hockey very well, he loved hockey because of the boys. It was something that meant a lot to them and he enjoyed it so much.”

She adds, she no longer takes life for granted.

“Any little thing that happens during the day means a lot. Just getting up and having breakfast with the boys, that’s important, that’s special. We don’t get to do that with Dave, anymore.”

The Journey Room name was created by Jody LeFave, who worked with Dave Wynn for many years.

McInnis-Wynn says donating the money to the Journey Room is a great way to remember two incredible people.
