Minister Not Concerned About Search For Ferry

Bay Ferries Limited has yet to secure a vessel for the 2016 season of the Yarmouth to Maine ferry.

Transportation Minister Geoff MacLellan says the company is in steady contact with international brokers to find one.

MacLellan says people shouldn’t be concerned.

“It is a tough market to acquire vessels based on market conditions globally in that industry. They have put their full forces to work to get this right and it’s not just about a vessel, it’s one that meets this business model.”

MacLellan says the decision on the type of vessel is a key decision and shouldn’t be made too quickly.

He feels the vessel needs to have a balance of being cost effective, benefit the local economy and provide quick travel.

The province is expected to make an announcement when a ferry is in place.
