The pressure is on the McNeil Government to set up a dialysis unit in Barrington Passage.
PC Opposition Health Critic Chris d’Entremont of Argyle-Barrington is urging the health minister to have machines installed at the local health clinic so patients don’t have to travel 100 kilometers daily to Yarmouth.
He says: “Depending on the weather, whether you can get there or not. They need this service. Its not like they can skip it today and go do it tomorrow. Dialysis is something that is life sustaining. If they risk getting stuck in snowbanks on the way there, thats not a safe way of going about it.”
d’Entremont has written to Health Minister Leo Glavine expressing the urgency in setting up the unit.
However, he believes he may have a fight on his hands to convince the minister.
d’Entremont intends to bring up the issue in the Legislature during the spring sitting that begins March 26th.
