MODL Mayor Dealing With Symptoms Of Lyme Disease

The mayor of the District of Lunenburg admits he’s felt a rollercoaster of feelings over the last month.

Don Downe recently found a tick in his belly button.

He says his family doctor is confident he has Lyme disease.

Downe is currently taking medication to try and recover.

“I have a fair amount of fatigue. I can feel really good, just like as if I was back and then a day or two later, I’m totally exhausted.”

Symptoms of Lyme disease include a bull’s eye rash, fatigue, headache and joint pain.

Downe hopes people will check themselves over for ticks if they are in the long grass or woods.

Researchers say the tick population and Lyme disease is increasing across Canada.
