MODL: More Discussion Needed On Boundary Review

Plenty to be determined before new boundaries are set in the Municipality of Lunenburg. The public shared their thoughts on three district boundary maps on Monday night. The province’s utility and review board is asking councils to review their size and make recommendations. Mayor Don Downe says it’s not that simple.
He says, “The issue is if you go smaller, you are going to change a lot of those boundaries, so it is complicated and it’s not just a simple science cause you have to balance off the whole issue of population and things of that nature, so there is more work to be done.” Concerns include separating communities, fire districts and balancing population. The public suggested the municipality move from 12 councillors to eight. Council decided on 10 plus a mayor. Downe says they will re-evaluate concerns and find a map that works.
