The special purpose tax for the LCLC could be on its way out sooner than expected in the Municipality of Lunenburg.
Mayor Don Downe says the two-and-a-half cent tax paid by residents should be be done by 2017.
The municipality has been paying off debt and reducing time on the tax.
Downe says they’re moving in the right direction.
“We said we would be having that two-and-a-half cent tax off as soon as we possibly can and by the way it’s looking now, we’re three-and-a-half years ahead of schedule.”
The municipality set a goal of paying off their portion of the LCLC in 10 years.
Residents started paying the tax in 2010-11.
