More Daylight, More Energy

You might have noticed it lately, the days are getting longer. Right now, Nova Scotia is gaining about three minutes of daylight every single day. That doesn’t sound like much, but over the course of a week, that adds up to more than 20 extra minutes of sunlight. And your body definitely notices.

Longer days mean your circadian rhythm gets a boost, that’s the internal clock that helps regulate sleep, energy, and even mood. More sunlight can help increase serotonin levels, the neurotransmitter that makes you feel happier and more alert. So those little extra minutes of daylight aren’t just pleasant, they can actually make you feel more awake and ready to tackle your day.

It’s also a subtle reminder that spring is coming. Before we know it, we’ll be seeing 7:30 pm sunsets again, and hitting 12 hours of daylight daily, perfect for after-work walks, evening runs, or just spending a bit more time outside with family and friends.

So the next time you notice the sun lingering a little longer in the sky, remember,  it’s not just nice to look at. It’s helping your body feel a little brighter too.
