Raising children in Yarmouth just got a little bit easier.
The province is investing $62,000 to provide a new program called the Parenting Journey.
Natalie Downie, Director of Prevention and early Intervention at the Department of Family Services, says the program will help parents with more than just advice on how to raise a child.
“Food security, housing, employment, economic components,” she says, “because we all know that those are important factors that impact our roles as families and ultimately our children.”
Downie says says a worker will use at home visits to get to know a family and their specific needs.
“We want to make sure that the work that happens is established within a relationship of trust. They will identify for us what their needs may be at any particular time.”
She says the Parenting Journey program is provided without any cost to the families.
Yarmouth is the latest community to get on board with 27 other locations across the province.
