MP Excited To See Money For Derelict Vessels, Childcare In Federal Budget

The MP for South Shore – St. Margaret’s believes there are many great initiatives in the federal budget that will impact Atlantic Canadians.

Bernadette Jordan says she’s proud of her government’s $7-billion investment over 10 years for new childcare spaces.

She says it’s something she heard about during the election campaign.

“This could see an increase of up to 40,000 new subsidized childcare spaces and I know there are a lot of families that have been struggling to find good, affordable, safe childcare spaces.”

$1.5-billion was also set aside for ocean protection and a chunk of that money will address some derelict vessels across Canada.

Jordan says more than $1.5-billion is needed to solve the problem nationwide, but it’s a good start.

“I think what the plan for the government is to find the ones that are the biggest concern right now and address that it is the first step; which ones are the biggest concern and start with the removal or the assessment and the removal of those vessels.”

Jordan has lobbied the government about abandoned vessels in the riding and hopes to receive money to help remove them.

She says investments in affordable housing and mental health are welcomed as they are issues she hears about when talking to people in Nova Scotia.
