Multiple staff members assaulted at N.S. jail

A number of staff members at a Nova Scotia prison were assaulted and sent to hospital.

In a news release, the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) says it happened Sunday at the medium-security Springhill Institution. The suspect has been identified and “appropriate actions will be taken”.

“The CSC acknowledges the serious and inherent risks faced daily by our correctional staff,” says the release. “We extend our full support to the staff members injured while carrying out the challenging work of maintaining safety and security withing our institutions.”

Safety and security, according to the CSC, are highest priority.

CSC says it will review the circumstances that led to the incident to prevent something like that in the future.

An investigation is underway.
