Municipality Of Chester Wants Civic-Minded Buyer For Gold River Property

The Municipality of Chester wants the former Gold River School to go to good use.

A request for proposals will go out in the next few weeks.

Warden Allen Webber says, if possible, they’d like to see the property turned into something that will benefit the community.

“Social housing, or low-income housing, is one that’s often talked about,”he says.

However, he says they understand that is a best case scenario.

“We want to allow for that,” he says, “but, we don’t want to rule out the fact that somebody might just want to flat out buy it, set up a business, and employ people.”

Ultimately, he says, they want to recoup money lost during failed renovations last year.

Webber says it costs around 60-thousand dollars a year to carry the property.

He says they hope to have some proposals to consider by early May.
