Natural Playground Under Construction In Mahone Bay

A new playground is introducing children to some old ways to play.

Construction on a natural playground is underway in Jubilee Park in Mahone Bay.

Organizer Helen Annable says they hope children will let their imaginations run free as they play on structures built from stones, logs and mounds of dirt.

“That’s the whole idea of a natural playground is to use their imagination and imagine all sorts of scenarios with the natural features that are within the playground.”

She says the idea is to allow children’s imaginations to guide them at play.

“It’s just allowing them to go off on their journeys and their imaginations. And I think it’s important they connect with the natural environment which is important to all of us.”

The project has received funding from all three levels of government as well as some private donations.

Annable says they want to keep the final design a surprise, but that the park will have a nautical theme.

She says if the weather cooperates, the as-yet unnamed park should be open by the end of the month.
