NDP Leader: What’s Going On With Collaborative Centre In Lunenburg?

There have been over a dozen closures of the emergency room at Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital in Lunenburg this year. A fact which NDP Leader Maureen MacDonald believes is unacceptable. She’s wondering what happened to the collaborative emergency centre that her party announced for Fishermen’s late in 2012. MacDonald feels a centre in Lunenburg only makes sense, saying, “It would eliminate the requirement to have a physician in the ER at night. Many of the cases that people need in the ER in the evening aren’t of that magnitude and if they were, people would be sent off very quickly to the regional hospital.” She can’t explain what the delays have been to set up the collaborative emergency centre. But, she plans to question the health minister when the Legislature resumes sitting this fall.
