In case you haven’t heard, the Town Of Bridgewater, MODL and Region of Queens Recreation Departments all are offering free loans of winter activity kits. (Check our events page for details)
That got me thinking of all the neighbourhood games we kids would play that needed very little accessories.
There was Red Light Green Light, Simon Says and the dangerous Red Rover. (I know that some of the scars on my body to this day I got from Red Rover)
Of course there was Tag and all it’s variations – Flashlight Tag, Freeze Tag, Frisbee Tag. Also Hide and Seek with all of it’s versions.
I vaguely remember a game with TV show initials and a big round world scraped out with a stick in the dirt.
And perhaps this was only in my neighbourhood where we were all little savages raised on too many war movies, but we often played “Who Dies The Best” where one person would be the soldier with the gun and everyone in turn would run towards them and then get shot and die in the most “over the top” ways.
Can you think of a neighbourhood kids game you used to play?
