Lunenburg Regional Fire and Emergency Services have started a bursary for junior firefighters.
Two hundred and fifty dollars will be given to a student from each of the four high schools in the region who is actively volunteering with the fire service.
Money for the bursary comes from the sale of the book “Firefighters of Lunenburg County”.
Copies of the book will be handed out to junior firefighters in the 27 member fire departments in the county.
The fire and emergency services are hoping to recruit more young people as volunteers.
The announcement comes prior to the start of fire prevention week which runs from October 9-15.
