The fight to control diabetes is getting just a little bit easier. A new class of medication will help patients with diabetes not only control their insulin but also helps cardiac-vascular health. Dr. Debbie Knight says heart health is a huge concern for those with diabetes.
“Vascular disease is three to four times as common in people with type two diabetes as those without diabetes,” she says. “And, 80% of our patients with diabetes will succumb to a vascular event of some form.”
Knight says this is the first time a drug has been effective in dealing with both issues at the same time. She will be in Bridgewater this week teaching local family doctors how to proscribe the new drugs.
