New Ross 200th Anniversary Gets Boost From Canadian Heritage

The unveiling of a 40-foot mural helped begin the celebration towards New Ross’ 200th anniversary.

It was created by Edwin Hollett and is located on the side of the Clover Farm store in the centre of the village.

Councillor Tina Connors says it reflects ‘New Ross Through The Years.’

“It’s a depiction of barrel-making, a team of oxen, logging, Christmas trees, so it’s a series of snapshots.”

Canadian Heritage also providing $76,800 to the event committee to help cover costs for legacy projects and entertainment.

Connors says there will be plenty to see and do in the village, beginning next January.

“Such as a beard-growing competition, programs for our school students, opening of our 150th time capsule.”

The 200th anniversary celebration in New Ross is over 300 days away; August 5 to 7, 2016.
