New Ross Group Develops Strategic Plan For Community

It’s considered a way of improving the lives of residents in New Ross. A strategic plan has been created by the area’s Regional Development Society following community consultations and meetings. Work on the plan began in 2012 and was recently presented to the Municipality of Chester. It outlines six goals towards improving living conditions in New Ross including increasing and retaining business, and attracting people. Society Director David Meister says the plan could help quash things that may cause problems. He says, “There really are threats to our community and more than there are potentially opportunities so we need to look at different ways of doing business and different ways of promoting our community, looking at partnering with industry that were maybe not done before and just being more creative in those areas.” Some noted threats listed include the potential loss of the school in New Ross, empty homes and a lack of young families. The Society says New Ross’ strengths include natural resources, low cost of real estate and its recreation facilities. The society also lists a number of upcoming projects to look forward to like the South Canoe Wind project and an expansion at the Fair Grounds. The Municipality of Chester has also show interest in partnering in the future.
