New Stamp, Dories To Be Unveiled In Lunenburg

Community pride will be on display as the Canadian Dory Racing Association will be showcased on a Canada post stamp. The moment is scheduled for this afternoon and is considered the “unofficial” kick off to the Lunenburg leg of the 62nd International Dory Races. Association President Kelly George says it’s a unique opportunity for the group. She says, “In 2004, a photograph was taken by Wade Eisnor from Martin’s River and he submitted that to Canada Post and they chose our picture of two rowers from 2004 to be on a stamp that is part of the UNESCO World Heritage collection.” Following the stamp unveiling, the group will also christen five new dories built by a master boatbuilder at the Lunenburg Dory Shop, which will be used in this weekend’s competition. It all starts at 1pm on the Lunenburg waterfront.
