No change to tax rates in Municipality of Shelburne

Tax rates are staying put in the Municipality of Shelburne.

Council’s $15.4 million budget kept it at $1.26 per $100 of assessment for residential and $1.82 for commercial.

Warden Penny Smith says there are a number of priorities they’re focused on.

“Economic development, housing, healthcare, infrastructure and governance. Our overall goal is to strengthen our community by seizing economic development opportunities,” said Warden Smith.

The municipality has a capital budget of $1.3 million.

There’s $100,000 toward repairs to the Sandy Point Lighthouse and funding for the $3 million Jordan River Trail Bridge project.

The province and ACOA are also providing money for that project.

“Work will begin this spring on the construction of a timber bridge that will accommodate pedestrians and off highway vehicles,” added Warden Smith.

She says the new bridge will provide a key connection in the local and regional trail system that will benefit locals and draw tourists to the area.
