No Confirmed Candidates For Lunenburg Mayoral Race

Lunenburg residents are wondering who will fill incumbent Mayor Rachel Bailey’s seat this fall.

No candidates have gone public with their intent to run as of now, though we have received multiple tips about at least two potential candidates.

There is still lots of time for people to announce their intent with the nomination date is set for September 8. Lunenburg’s Returning Officer Patrick Burke says they will be accepting the paperwork a week in advance so candidates can rectify any issues before nomination day. Anyone wishing to due so must make an appointment ahead of time and no documents will be taken on September 3, as it is a public holiday.

Anyone wishing to run must meet a few requirements in order to be eligible. Candidates must be Canadian citizens, at least 18 years old, have lived in Lunenburg for the past 6 months as well there is a list of things that could make you ineligible like having outstanding liens or holding another public office among others.

Municipal elections are scheduled for October 17 and in Lunenburg, they will utilize e-voting to avoid risks associated with the COVID-19 pandemic.
