Nomination Date Nears For Special School Board Election

The clock is ticking for those people interested in serving on the South Shore Regional School Board.

A special election has been called next month after the winning candidate representing the Town of Bridgewater was disqualified from the October election.

Michael Stewart was still working as a substitute teacher during the school board election, which is not allowed under the Education Act.

People have until Tuesday at 5 p.m to file their papers with the returning officer at the School Board office at 130 North Park Street.

Ted Bulley says a few requirements people must meet include being a Canadian citizen, at least 18 years-old and have lived within the South Shore school board region for the last six months.

“You must have five signatures of electors, these are people who can vote in the Twon of Bridgewater because you’re representing the Town of Bridgewater.”

As of this morning, only two people have filed their papers to run; one of them is Stewart and the other is Iris Charlton.

The special election will be held Feburary 11.
