(Not) Going To The Doctor

I had a doctor`s appointment yesterday. Only I was still at the office.

It was one of those telephone appointments. The doctor called my phone, I found a quiet spot and talked to him for a few minutes. It went very well.

I don`t think I would want ever appointment to be like that, but it does work well from time to time.

Sure, it`s a bit tough for him to check my blood pressure or listen to my chest. And if I hear a rubber glove snap while sitting in the office I`ll probably start running. Let`s face it. These days there is no shortage of rubber gloves around, but I`m also pretty sure none of the people around work are qualified to use them for that purpose. I work with some fine people, but when it comes to checking my prostate I want a professional.

Other than that, for a quick check and getting a few prescriptions renewed, the telephone appointment works very well. It got everything done that needed doing at the time and probably saved both of time in the process.

There are still times you want to actually see a doctor. And there have been times when doctors have spotted things that needed to be addressed that I was not there to see them about. So it is good to see one now and again… if you`re lucky enough to have access to one. But maybe this telephone appointment thing can relieve some of the pressure on the system.

I hope the province keeps it around.
