A low pressure system from the Great Lakes will push rain into Nova Scotia overnight tonight and into Wednesday.
Many areas will receive between 20 and 30 millimetres.
However, some could get as much as 50 millimetres.
Environment Canada Meteorologist Tracey Talbot says people should be prepared.
“We’re expecting the rain to come down pretty heavy for a few hours, so there could be some localized flooding or some overflowing of storm drains.”
Heavy rain and potential thundershowers are expected to begin Wednesday morning.
Talbot expects the rain will taper off to showers early Wednesday afternoon.
Four wildfires continue to burn across Nova Scotia.
The Department of Natural Resources has stated a steady, significant amount of rain is needed to help put the fires out.
