Nova Scotia villages may be added to the municipal endangered species list. A government fiscal review recommends all 22 existing villages in the province be disbanded and none be created in the future. The President of the Association of Nova Scotia Villages, Brenda Mulrooney of Chester, says the review committee filed its report with the provincial government without consultation. She says the committee cut corners gathering information. Mulrooney says: “Some of it was from information that we filed to the province through our municipality and from financial officers in various municipalities who knew what our assessments were. There was no information handed over and none from any village.” Mulrooney says Nova Scotia’s villages are fiscally healthy, unlike many of the province’s towns. Her association is preparing a submission to the provincial government with input included from village residents.
