Share Thanksgiving is a national initiative connecting immigrant families and international students with Canadians for Thanksgiving dinner.
Mike Kennedy is an Acadia University graduate. Last year, he invited two international students from the Bahamas attending Acadia to have dinner with his family in Ingramport.
“My 87-year old grandmother Myrtle still cooks up a big feast for the family. It was wonderful to welcome newcomers. They came dressed in traditional colourful carribean dresses. It was a wonderful exchange of traditions from different parts of the world,” said Kennedy, who added he’s ready to host guests again this year.
“I am hoping we can be paired up with students from a Spanish speaking country. My cousin married someone from Peru and they will be joining us for dinner. It would be nice to have dinner in two languages,” said Kennedy.
Last year, Nova Scotians welcomed more immigrants into their homes than anywhere else in the country other than Toronto.
