Nova Scotia’s Minimum Wage On The Rise

Minimum wage earners will see a slight raise come April 1.

Nova Scotia’s Minimum Wage Review Committee has recommended an increase of 15 cents and hour.

That will mean a rate of $11 an hour for experienced workers.

Employees with less than three months on the job can be paid $10.50.

The amount was raised by 1.6 percent to align with the 2017 national Consumer Price Index.

The review committee will be looking at other ways of setting the base rate of pay for hourly workers this spring.

That comes after talks between the Atlantic Premiers about harmonizing the minimum wage and how adjustments are made.

The increase brings Nova Scotia in line with New Brunswick and Newfoundland as the provinces with the second lowest minimum wage in the country.

Saskatchewan has the lowest at $10.96 an hour.
