NS Coach Praises Team For Gold Medal At Youth Olympics

A gold medal finish for Chester’s Mary Fay at the Youth Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway.

Fay skipped the team to a 10-4 victory over the United States.

She was joined by Nova Scotia teammate Karlee Burgess and Tyler Tardis and Sterling Middleton of B.C.

Andrew Atherton of Chester coaches Fay and Burgess for team Nova Scotia.

He says he’s not surprised by the results.

“They had a really strong team, really worked well together with a ton of talent and I expected that if they played close to their abilities they would win a gold medal and they clearly came through.”

The Canadians won all 10 games on route to their first place finish.

Atherton says the Youth Olympics will help Fay and Burgess prepare for next month’s World Junior Curling Championships in Denmark.

Fay begins play Thursday in the mixed doubles event at the Youth Winter Olympics.
