NS Government Using 211 Service To Support Refugees

Nova Scotians have a new way to help refugees coming from Syria.

The province is using the 211 phone service to accept aid from residents including food, clothing and lodging.

Immigration Minister Lena Metlege Diab says people want to help.

“Nova Scotians are caring. Our communities have made it clear they want to help refugees who will soon be in our province.”

Operators will take contact information from 211 callers, so donations can be collected.

Ottawa has committed to bringing 25,000 refugees to Canada by the end of December.

Diab says the federal government has not confirmed how many refugees could be coming to Nova Scotia.

It’s also not known when Syrian refugees could make their way to this province.
