NS Pharmacists Among Most Trusted In Canada

Nova Scotian’s Pharmacists are among the most trusted in Canada, says a new study.

Allison Bodnar, CEO of the Pharmacy Association of Nova Scotia says most people know about flu shots available to them at the pharmacy.

However, few know pharmacists can also prescribe medication for minor ailments such as cold sores, allergies, excema or athlete’s foot.

If over-the-counter medications aren’t working, your pharmacist may be able to help.

“You can now see your pharmacist and they’re now able to do a full assessment in a private counselling room and then if the outcome is such and you need a prescription, they can write you a prescription,” said Bodnar.

Bodnar points to the publicly funded flu campaign that shows Nova Scotians are going somewhere other than a physician for health care.

Since the pharmacy flu shot was introduced three years ago, 300,000 Nova Scotians have been immunized.
