NSCC Students Prepare To Graduate

Thousands of Nova Scotia Community College students are attending convocations this week and next.

President Don Bureaux says it’s a highlight for him to attend all 18 ceremonies and shake hands with graduates.

He remembers meeting a woman on stage who attended college to begin a new chapter in her life.

“I saw her young daughter holding up a piece of bristol board in which she made a sign that said ‘Mom, I’m very proud of you. I knew you could do it.’ I must tell you I had tears in my eyes after I saw that little girl’s pride for her mother.”

He says he believes students have to be dynamic, flexible and innovative in today’s economy.

“You now have incredible skills to be prepared when you are faced with the unexpected, but please never stop learning for the rest of your careers.”

A ceremony will be held this evening in Shelburne at 5 p.m. at the community centre.

The convocation for the Burridge Campus in Yarmouth is Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Mariner’s Centre.

Students graduating from the NSCC Lunenburg Campus in Bridgewater will grace the stage Thursday at 4 p.m. in the school’s gymnasium.
