It is with heavy hearts that the family of Dora Kathelene Melanson, 83, of Fox Point, share the news of her passing on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at South Shore Regional Hospital in Bridgewater. Born in Moncton, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Gertrude (Brown) Sheck.

Dora was a very active member of St. Lukes Anglican Church in Hubbard’s throughout her life and served on various committees over the years including the ACW, until her health forced her to step back. She was an extremely independent woman and made many true friends in her community. This was no doubt due to her vibrant outgoing personality along with her wonderful sense of humour. A lady of many talents including painting, sewing and knitting. She was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone who was in need. Dora loved the outdoors and her dog Scampy who she took everywhere with her especially to Queensland Beach where she also enjoyed swimming.

She leaves behind her, sister-in-laws, Nancy Curleigh, and Anne Williams; niece, Dorinda Willigar, her best friend, Dolly Beeler, several nieces and nephews as well as Robert (Deanna) Beeler, Marjorie Seaboyer, Bruce (Sarah Drake) Seaboyer, Sara (Alex) Frank, Carter Seaboyer, Colton Beeler, Jordan (Alisha) Beeler, and Leah Beeler who were her closest loved ones throughout her life.

Besides her husband Byron, she was predeceased by her brothers, Shirwood and Norwood (Eve) Sheck and sisters, Alwinda “Billie” Sheck and Dale Sheck.

A memorial service to celebrate Dora’s life will be held on Friday, June 26 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Luke’s Anglican Church, Hubbards, Rev. Esther Deng officiating. Interment will be at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Personal Care Cremations & Memorial Services.

Donations made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia or the Nova Scotia Firefighters Burn Treatment Society would be appreciated by the family.
