It is with deep sadness that the family of Ernest “Ross” Ramey, 91, of Hebbville, announces his passing on Monday, October 5, 2026, at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Buckfield, he was a son of the late Elmer and Helen (Veinot) Ramey.
Ross began his career with the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1952, proudly serving as an Airframe Technician until his retirement in 1971 as a Master Corporal. He later worked with Irving Oil as a boiler service and installation technician, and LaHave Equipment as a heavy equipment mechanic. He eventually settled into his role as a supervisor of maintenance with the Department of Public Works, Canada at the Lunenburg office, where he retired.
Outside of work, Ross and Ginny loved traveling to Bluegrass festivals, where Ross showcased his musical talent on nearly every stringed instrument—with the banjo being a personal favorite. A true jack-of-all-trades, Ross could fix or build almost anything, and he was always the first to lend a helping hand. Above all, he was a soft-hearted, gentle man who genuinely loved people.
Ross is survived by his loving wife, Virginia “Ginny”; son, David (Faye) Ramey of Conquerall Bank; daughter, Linda (Glen) Slauenwhite of Italy Cross; proud grandchildren, Chris, Natasha, Morgan, and Jade; great-grandchildren, Caelyn, Hayden, Keegan, Carter, Beaux, Duke, and Asher; brother, Walter (Judy) Ramey of Hebbville; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Beside his parents, he was predeceased by his children, Jeanette, Darrell, and Ronald Ramey; daughter Rose Hubley; and daughter-in-law, Tammy Hirtle.
A Celebration of Ross’s Life will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2026, from 1-5 p.m. from the Newcombville Fire Department. Rev. Willis Ott officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to Personal Care Cremations & Memorial Services.
In memory of Ross, donations to a charity of your choice would be deeply appreciated by the family.
