Roger Andre Ruel

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Roger André Louis Ruel, beloved husband, brother, uncle, and friend.

Roger was born on June 11, 1945, in Saint-Pierre et Miquelon, where he spent his childhood and early years.

After completing his architectural studies in France in the mid-1960s, Roger moved to Sydney, Nova Scotia, where he began an important chapter of his professional career. He contributed to the reconstruction of the Fortress of Louisbourg, a project of great historical significance, where he worked until the early 1980s.

Roger later continued his work with the federal government in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, supervising the construction and renovation of several government buildings in both Dartmouth and Halifax. His dedication, professionalism, and attention to detail earned him the respect of colleagues throughout his career.

In 1985, Roger was transferred to Regina, Saskatchewan, where he continued his work until his retirement in 2002. Following retirement, Roger settled in Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia.

Roger was predeceased by his beloved wife, Anne Ruel (née Hirtle), who passed away in 2020. They shared many years together.

He was also predeceased by his parents, Louis Ruel and Alberte Ruel (née Hacala), both originally from Saint-Pierre et Miquelon; his brother Jean Ruel, who passed away in 1996; and his sister Odile Ruel, who passed away in 2026.

Roger leaves behind his brother Joseph Ruel of Saint-Pierre et Miquelon, and his sister Carmel Ruel of Saint-Pierre et Miquelon, along with extended family members and friends, including a special wink to Kiwi, his loyal furry companion of recent years. He will also be fondly remembered and deeply missed by his close friend and caregiver Pam Knickle of Lunenburg.

Roger will be remembered for his intelligence, calm presence, and dedication to his work. The family would like to thank everyone for their support and kind thoughts during this difficult time.

In keeping with Rogers wishes, cremation has taken place and there is to be no public memorial service. Arrangements entrusted to Personal Care Cremations & Memorial Services.

In lieu of flowers, donations made to SHAID Tree Animal Shelter would be appreciated.
