OPOR health system goes live amid rollout concerns

Nova Scotia Health (NSH) officials say they’re off to a strong start as they launch their One Person One Record (OPOR) system, however, concerns are mounting that the rollout is moving too quickly.

The health information system went live in the Central Zone and some of the Mental Health and Addictions Program on May 9, which NSH says marks a major step forward in coordinated care for Nova Scotian’s.

OPOR started at the IWK in December, with plans to link each individual’s health information into a single record.

The latest announcement comes just a few days after the NDP and Liberal leaders urged the province to pause the rollout in letters to the health minister. NSH staff have also raised alarms about training, saying more support is needed to ensure the system is implemented safely.

Despite pushback, NSH celebrated the launch in a social media post, saying they “connected with teams across the system and saw firsthand the dedication, teamwork, and shared commitment to safe, high-quality care.”
