Golfers in Lunenburg County got some good news today.
The Osprey Ridge Golf Course has been purchased by two Nova Scotian businessmen for $1 million.
Bill Sampson, recently sold the car dealership he owned in Middleton has partnered with Victor Kielbratowski, the owner of several successful construction business based in Halifax.
Sampson, who is the President of the newly minted Osprey Ridge GP Limited, says he’s excited to finally announce the sale.
“Basically it started about two years ago,” he says, “and it’s been a very long tiring process I’m telling you, but it’s worked out well.”
Sampson says he believes in the value the club brings to the community
“It’s a great way of life around a golf course,” he says. “We look forward to developing this into even a better spot than it has been.”
The partners, who both call the South Shore home, have already hit the ground running.
They’ve spent $360,000 to purchase 30 brand new golf carts, bringing the total owned by the club to 60.
Sampson says the next few years won’t be easy as they invest money to upgrade a number of features at the golf course.
However, he says, they’re determined to see the property thrive.
Meanwhile, the Municipality of Lunenburg took over operations of the golf club in 2012.
Mayor Don Downe says getting the course back into the private sector is a win-win for everyone involved.
“Those 40 jobs will stay in our community. There’s over a million dollars spent in our community because of that golf course, and that will continue. So, that’s all part of the economic base, and besides all that we’ll get a little bit of tax revenue.”
Downe hopes membership will begin to grow over the next few years so the property can begin to thrive.
