A partnership has helped provide some much needed funding to the Chester District School. The Municipality of Chester, the Chester Municipal Chamber of Commerce and representatives from the TV show ‘Haven’ raised $2,975 for the school’s breakfast program. Principal Bernie Van Doninck says it’s important for kids to have a good start to their day. He says “We’ve done a lot of work in terms of communicating with our students about the program and what it is and how important nutrition is. If you’re hungry, we don’t want you to be hungry so we want to make sure your brains are available for learning.” Two hundred and sixty-five students have access to the breakfast program. A September fundraiser offered people photo opportunities and the chance to meet some of the stars of ‘Haven’. Economic Development Officer, Marianne Gates, says it has been an asset for the community. She says, “They’re very gracious, from the cast to the crew to the producers, they’re all very welcoming people and I think they feel like they’ve been welcomed into our community, they’ve certainly become part of our community.” A cheque was recently presented to the school.
