Perkins House Museum in Liverpool saved from closure

A historic museum in Liverpool is being saved from closure after new provincial support was secured.

The Queens County Historical Society says Perkins House Museum will remain open after receiving an offer from the Nova Scotia Museum.

Under the proposal, Perkins House would become part of the Community Museum Assistance Program, which provides support to community museums across the province.

That would include an annual operating grant of $50,000.

The museum had been expected to close after earlier provincial budget decisions created uncertainty around future funding.

The Historical Society says it has formally accepted the offer.

Officials thanked residents who spoke out in support of the museum, saying the response showed how important Perkins House is to the community.

Further details, including opening dates and future plans, are expected soon.
