Habitat For Humanity has a special guest coming to the South Shore to take part in its big fundraising gala on April 15th. CBC’s The National’s Peter Mansbridge has donated his time and expertise as a keynote speaker for the event.
Chairperson Hank Middleton says this year’s fundraising gala dinner is sure to be a sell-out.
The gala event raised 35-thousand last year.
This year’s goal is 50-thousand.
“I am confident this year we will sell out our 300-seat capacity quickly. And with big silent auction items up for grabs, we will have no problem exceeding our goal of 50-thousand dollars this year,” said Middleton.
The money will go toward building a safe, affordable house for another low income family in Bridgewater.
Middleton says they’ve been working with Mayor David Walker in securing a parcel of land to be donated by the town of Bridgewater and hope to start building in the spring 2016.
To date, South Shore volunteers have made homeownership a reality for four families in Bridgewater, Liverpool and Mahone Bay.
Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit, volunteer-driven organization working towards a Nova Scotia where everyone has a safe and decent place to live and has built 45 homes throughout the province since its inception.
