Photographer Putting Pictures Into Action

A local man is hoping some stunning photography will help combat an invasive species.

Tom Rogers is creating a calendar called the Giants of Nova Scotia.

He is asking for submissions from local photographers that feature large trees.

“If the photo included trees as part of a familiar setting or a beautiful setting, then in our estimation, that’s eligible.”

Proceeds will be donated to the Mersey Tobiatic Research Institute to help educate the public about the Hemlock Wooly Adelgid.

The insect attacks Hemlocks and has no local predator.

“If you’re somebody who goes hiking in the woods, if you’re somebody who has trees in their backyard. You know, we all have a role to play in protecting our forests against this new-found bad guy.”

Rogers says photographers will be compensated for their work.

To submit a photo for consideration, or for more information about the project, follow this link.

Deadline for submissions is September 14 and the calendars will be available October 31.
