The town of Bridgewater is looking for ways to get rid of poison ivy.
Deputy Mayor Bill McInnis says it’s been located in parks and near old railways.
He says the pesky plant got its start in Bridgewater near the turn of the last century.
“What the rail line did was plant poison ivy all along the rail line to keep people from boarding the trains as they were moving.”
He adds, there have been some unique ideas to get rid of the plants.
“Well, it was a joke but they use goats down in New York State. Goats, apparently, just love poison ivy.”
McInnis says Bridgewater probably won’t resort to goats.
He says, for now, they will add additional signs to warn people to stay away.
