Bridgewater Police Service is warning of the ‘short-changing scam’ just days after RCMP in the Tri-County area put out public notice themselves.
The scam involves a person using a large bill to pay for a small purchase and then confusing the clerk into giving back more change than required.
The suspect may ask to have other bills changed at the same time, adding to confusion.
BPS says scammers are in the Bridgewater area.
They’re looking for two white males in their mid twenties or thirties wearing ball caps.
One male is clean shaven and thin and the other has scruffy facial hair and a stocky build.
RCMP notified the public last week that a bank in Digby and a Yarmouth grocery store had both been duped by the scam.
Both police forces are advising businesses to be aware and contact their respective police service if they’ve been targeted.
