Pride On The Rise In Lunenburg County

A victory for the LGBTQ community in Lunenburg County.

A rule change means a rainbow flag will fly at the Municipality of Lunenburg office during pride week in July.

Judi Milne has been working towards this for years.

She says it’s an important win for the community.

“It’s always about a bigger issue,” she says. “The flag is just the element you see. People have been asking to have this flag flown to show there is a community here.”

Until now municipal rules banned any non-governmental flag from being flown.

Milne, says it would have been great if it had come a few weeks earlier when 50 people were gunned down in a Florida night club.

“I would have loved to see a flag go up here for the vigil for Orlando, but it just wasn’t able to happen. Bridgewater, give them kudos they did it.”

Milne says that doesn’t take away from the joy of seeing the municipality becoming more inclusive.

The colours will be raised on July 13th.
